I received my master’s degree in clinical social work from Michigan State University in 2011. I am fully licensed to practice in the state of Michigan. I have experience working in a variety of settings specializing in psychiatry and mental health. I spent several years working in the emergency room at both St Joe’s and U of M hospitals in Ann Arbor, MI. More recently, I provided behavioral health care management and therapy in pediatric and adult primary care offices. It was in this setting that I truly fell in love with therapy and knew that opening my own practice was the only next step!

I became a therapist out of my love for helping others. Life is challenging and we all go through struggles. I believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to feel heard, validated, valued, inspired and worthy. My goal is to help you become the best version of yourself by providing a warm and empathic environment while offering guidance and skills to effectively manage your life. Whether you are struggling with a chronic mental health diagnosis, situational depression or common life stressors, therapy can help. Nurturing your mental health is one of the most important things you can do!

While I have worked with patients of all ages, I specialize in working with older teens/young adults and adults. More specifically, I have found great joy in working with women struggling with eating issues, trauma, anxiety, depression and self esteem. We live in a world that is constantly judging us and telling us who we should be. My job is to help you embrace who you are and develop healthy skills to manage life’s stressors.

My other area of expertise is working with first responders and healthcare workers. Through years of working in the Emergency Room, I have been blessed to support these populations in some of the most difficult aspects of their jobs and lives. The stress of being a first responder and/or healthcare worker can bring great joy along with great overwhelm, stress, anxiety and trauma. These experiences have given me the knowledge and understanding to provide a level of support and intervention targeted towards the unique needs of these amazing professionals.

Areas of expertise include trauma, anxiety, depression, eating disorders and grief/loss. I strongly believe that managing our emotions is paramount to quality mental health. Simply talking about our emotions doesn’t solve the overall problem. However, when we are aware of our emotions, understand them and process them rather than avoid them, we can respond rather than react. Our decision making does not have to always be in response to an emotion. Balancing emotions with knowldege, insight and awareness is key to regulating emotions and regulating emotion is one of the most important skills one can possess. After all, emotions drive human behavior. When we can effecitvely and healthfully manage them, we are better able to navigate realtionships, address conflct, improve relationships, reduce stress and live our lives to the best of our potential. This, in combination with developing personalized coping skills, is what I base my therapeutic interventions on.

I use a combination of interventions tailored to each person’s individula goals. I am more drawn to talk therapy approaches including psychodynamic, emotion focused and humanistic approaches but also incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and elements of dialectic behavioral therapy (DBT). I strongly believe in animal assisted therapy and practice with my 13 year old black lab, Dakota, in the office. She is not trained as a therapy dog but provides a comforting, loving and non-judgemental space for you to express yourself freely. Weather permitting, I am willing to do “walk and talk” sessions with you and Dakota to provide a less formal and stress free environment.

When I am not working, I love to spend time with my husband, 2 daughters and 2 dogs. In my free time I enjoy running, exercise, summers on the lake, watching sports and being with family. My career is my passion and I feel blessed that I get to spend it helping others. You are the expert of your own life. I am here to listen, guide and offer a new perspective; not to judge, “fix” or change you!

Please reach out if you have questions or would like to schedule an appointment. I look forward to meeting you!

Words of Wisdom…

Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.

Don’t trade your authenticity for approval.

Feelings are just visitors, let them come and go.

You were given this life because you are strong enough to handle it.

Perhaps the butterfly is proof that you can go through a great deal of darkness and still become something beautiful.
