Lisa Decker, LMSW

Many of us are familiar with the African proverb "it takes a village to raise a child" but the sentiment behind it is true for all of us regardless of age- we need the support, compassion, and guidance of others to overcome and grow in response to life's many challenges. We look to our village during times of celebration, but when there is sadness, anxiety, trauma, or uncertainty, we often find the need to look for additional help beyond our existing support system. I became a therapist because I care deeply about partnering with others during difficult times and am honored when I am invited to be part of someone's village.

As a licensed clinical social worker (LMSW) with over 13 years of mental health experience, I have provided individual, family, and group therapy. In my various roles as child/adolescent psychiatric inpatient therapist in NC, Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) social worker at Michigan Medicine, Behavioral Health Care Manager for a local pediatric office, and now as an outpatient therapist, I continue to be dedicated and committed to best practice techniques and hold myself to high ethical standards.

My experience is best suited for adults, adolescents, or children, ages 8 or older as areas of interest include anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief/loss, infertility/pregnancy/postpartum, parenting, and trauma. I strive to provide a warm and validating environment so that you feel respected, understood, and empowered. I strongly believe in practicing from a strengths based perspective and working to understand your life's journey- the blessings and challenges that brought you to this moment. Using a combination of CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and specific elements of DBT, my desire is to collaborate with you to find ways to help you thrive in your circumstances.

I grew up in Michigan and attended Eastern Michigan University until the promise of year-round sunshine convinced us to move south. My husband and I relocated to Charlotte, NC and I graduated from UNCC with my Masters in Social Work (MSW) in 2008. Having fallen in love with Carolina blue skies, southern bbq, racing, Appalachian mountains and the beach, we made it our home for 10 amazing years. We welcomed our son in 2012 and shortly after found that we were wishing to be back in Michigan with all of our extended family. We returned in 2014 and now reside in Brighton with our newest addition, a daughter born in 2019, as well as some pet fish, a 12 year old golden retriever named Jake, and leopard gecko named Fresno.

In my free time I love to read, spend time outdoors, travel, run, remodel our house, find the misplaced ketchup bottle, sing as loud as I can in the car, and get distracted by pinterest and tik toks.

I look forward to discussing how my skills and experience can be helpful to you!
